Challenges in the Pilot Region and beyond
Great challenges in the project region are the increasing number of drought and flood events, as well as salt water intrusion. These problems, which are partly caused by misplanning, hydropower development, forest fragmentation and demographic change accompanied by an increased demand for food, water and energy, demand sustainable strategies for land- and water management.
The challenges in the project region and beyond can be summarized in the following items:
- Hydropower development
- Landscape fragmentation and illegal logging
- Salt water intrusion
- Flood risk
- Drought risk
- Institutional diversity and ongoing reforms
- Increasing demands for food, water and energy
